1962 Chevy Impala Convertible Mild Custom - WIP

Hello all! I just started a new project for a contest coming up on October 29. That means I have 26 days to build it.

The Plan:

Using the AMT/ERTL 1962 Chevy Impala, I am going to build a mild custom. The final result will be something that an average car nut with a garage and hand tools would be able to build on a limited budget. So no superchargers, no airbag suspension, and no crazy big block with a million horsepower. This is going to be a nice cruiser with simple yet fun upgrades.

Suspension: I am going to modify the stock springs and shocks to lower the car a few scale inches. I'm not sure if I want it to sit level (probably) or have a bit of a rake (probably not). The hub and axles will need to be separated from the rear springs in order to turn them and get a proper angle for the drive shaft. I also plan on scratch building some springs. Other than that the suspension will be stock.

Engine: The engine is going to be a 283ci V8 from the AMT 1955 Chevy Cameo. The parts used from the Cameo will be the block/tranny, oil pan, heads, intake manifold, and valve covers. I will be using most of the accessories from the Cameo engine as well. The 4 bbl carb and air cleaner are from the AMT 1972 Chevy Chevelle. I am planning on wiring the engine as well. The headers and exhaust will be scratch built, but I will be using the mufflers from one of the three kits I am using.

Interior: This will be pretty much stock except for flocking and a few diorama things. Color will be matched to the exterior paint.

Exterior: I will be shaving anything extruding from the body. This includes emblems, trim, and door handles etc. I'm going to do something with the hood, but I'm not sure what yet. I also haven't decided on a colour.

Wheels and Tires. These are going to be stock steel rims (what I call steelies) with Goodyear tires. The tires that came in the kit are so narrow they look silly on something like this. I ended up using four tires from the '72 Chevelle. I had to do a little suspension modification to get them to fit right.

Sorry for the novel, but writing all of the plan out helps me get organized. Now, here comes the fun part! I'm looking for a little input on some aspects of the build. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

1. I can't decide how the exhausts should exit. I don't think side exhaust in front of the rear tire would be good. I might give the person in the back seat carbon monoxide poisoning! So should I exit out the side in front of the rear bumper, or straight out the back?

2. What should I do with the hood? I'm torn between cowl induction or some kind of scoop.

3. What colour should I paint it? I want to have said colour matched in the interior with white accents. I've pretty much narrowed the choices down to dark purple, dark green, or red (all metallic). I don't want this car to look like a lowrider, so flashy colours are kind of out.

Anyways, here is a few pics of the start. I've already got the suspension set where I want it.
