Aston Martin V8 Vantage S

Aston has been designing rolling works of art for a very long time and has recently retaken a stance as a racing power as well. The company?s GT4 racecar won its class in two of the most important races of the year, Nurburgring 24 and Spa 24 hours, and have begun fusing racecar technology into the road cars with more fervor than ever before. The top-of-the-line V12 Vantage has the motor from the larger DB9 shoehorned into its engine compartment, making it a true hot rod. That formula may work for some, but others were seeing a lapse between the V12 model and the base V8.

At the beginning of Summer 2011, Aston Martin will introduce the V8 Vantage S, hoping to squeeze some more profit out of its best selling model line and please enthusiasts at the same time. Increases in engine performance, transmission, chassis, and aerodynamics will all further the appeal of an iconic sports car.

According to Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin, ?The Vantage S epitomizes every attribute of the V-8 Vantage and pushes the driver experience beyond what we have offered before.?

UPDATE 01/31/2011: Aston Martin has released some new images of the Vantage S. Check them all out in the gallery provided!

Hit the jump for more details on the 2011 Aston Martin Vantage S.

Karthikeyan Makes Surprise F1 Return With HRT

Narain Karthikeyan has made a surprise return to Formula One after being announced as one of Hispania HRT’s drivers for the 2011 season. Jeep Wrangler by Project Kahn

Project Kahn may have a thing for LandRover models, but the British tuner has settled right in with another luxurious SUV: the Jeep Wrangler. They may have only added a cool new black exterior color and some impressive wheels, but the result was top notch nonetheless.

The new set of 19" RS wheels was designed by Kahn and truly highlights the Jeep’s beautifully aggressive exterior. The set has been designed to take the original center cap from Jeep and will be available immediately. The price is set at a reasonable 185+vat in silver and 195+vat in black and will be available in limited stock. The tuner recommends the wheels be fit with size 275 x 55 x 20 tires.

"We have designed this wheel with the off road enthusiast in mind and we would like this design to compliment a great vehicle and offer the owner the opportunity to have a sense of individuality and break from the norm. There are many wheels currently available but not all of them are suited to the rough terrain and we question whether some of them can sustain the high off road usage that owners of these vehicles expect."

Not many tuners have decided to attack the Wrangler with some updates, so Project Kahn’s minimal package looks pretty good in our eyes. Now if we bring to light some of the special editions that have been created out of the off-road vehicle then this package would be meek at best. At the top of our list of special edition Wranglers is the Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition. Now that’s a hooked up Wrangler!

New Faces in Formula One in 2009?

Could F1 2011 be even better?

The final grand prix of the season in Abu Dhabi summed up why the 2010 season will go down in Formula 1 history as a classic year.

There were super-fast Red Bulls, world champion drivers in the thick of the action, strategic errors, raw emotion and a final twist in an epic tale as Sebastian Vettel won his first world title.

Before the race was run, the sun-soaked paddock was buzzing with talk of "the greatest season ever" and debate about the highlight of the season swelled.

In fact, as the dust settles on Abu Dhabi, the teams' attentions are already turning to 2011 - all the teams and most of the race drivers get their first run on next year's new Pirelli tyres at the Yas Marina track at the weekend.

With just 118 days to go until the cars and drivers return to the desert in Bahrain to rejoin battle, expectations are already building that 2011 could be another classic year, matching events this season.

As BBC pundit Eddie Jordan exclaimed on Sunday: "We have five world champions competing next year, what are we in for?!"

In order to see this content you need to have both Javascript enabled and Flash installed. Visit BBC Webwise for full instructions. If you're reading via RSS, you'll need to visit the blog to access this content.

Jordan is right to be excited.

The men who defined this season remain in situ - Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button at McLaren, Fernando Alonso at Ferrari, and Vettel and Mark Webber at Red Bull.

All of them know they have things to improve in 2010 - particularly the number of errors they have made. And the long winter will give each of the 24 drivers on the grid time to analyse and agonise over crucial mistakes and frittered points that ultimately defined their seasons.

"Every one of us made too many errors and that is why we found ourselves in a position with five guys fighting it out," reflected Button, who saw his title defence end in Brazil.

Though he was the first to bow out, Button had the cleanest season of all the five contenders but found himself let down by a lack of pace - particularly in qualifying - as he got to grips with a McLaren in his first season with the team.

Alonso will rue his uncharacteristic errors in Australia and China, his crash in Monaco and, most of all, the fatal call from Ferrari to bring him in early for fresh tyres in Abu Dhabi.

Hamilton will reflect on his ill-judged passing moves in Monza and Singapore, which effectively ended his hopes, while Webber will relive his frightening somersault in Valencia and his costly crash in Korea.

Vettel, too, made more than his fair share of errors. He must take the blame for crashes with his team-mate Webber in Turkey and an unwitting Button in Spa, while his attempt to go around the outside of Webber at the start in Silverstone earned him a puncture.

For Red Bull, though, one of the biggest areas of focus will be the poor early-season reliability, from spark plugs to wheel nuts, that prevented Vettel bursting into an early lead.

When Red Bull adviser Dr Helmut Marko was asked on Sunday what his next goal was after his team captured both championships, he said they intended to cut out the errors so they could win the titles sooner.

All the top teams will be adding grease to their usually slick operations over the winter at the same time as building their cars to a set of regulations that have been tweaked again.

Gone will be the double-diffusers which caused so much controversy at the start of 2009, as well as the F-duct that McLaren pioneered at the start of 2010, forcing everyone else to follow suit.

Blown diffusers - 2010's other defining technical tweak - will stay to an extent, though.

In come those Pirelli tyres, while Kers energy storage and power-boost systems return after a year away. There will also be a new technical trick in the form of moveable rear wings, an attempt to solve F1's perennial problem even in a season as great as this - the difficulty of overtaking.

The success of the teams' research into the effects of these changes will shape next year's title chase - and it is by no means a given that this year's big three will be the ones who get it most right.

There have been concerned whispers that the efforts of waging a season-long campaign have diverted attention away from 2011 development programmes at Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren.

The strain of winning the 2009 championships certainly drained Brawn Grand Prix, which had a debilitating effect on them this season in their new guise as Mercedes.

However, with no championship to fight for, teams such as Mercedes and Renault, who stopped developing their 2010 car in September so they concentrate on next season, could make it a five-way battle for honours next year.

"It has been a special year," mused McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh. "Can there be more?

"We have to keep the focus on brave, fantastic drivers in great machinery; an even-handed regulator, stability and clear rules that are administered properly.

"We can't guarantee it but there is no reason the championship next year can't be as good - or even better."

Doctors use Formula One pit crews as safety model

American Medical News reports hospitals in at least a dozen countries are learning how to translate the split-second timing and near-perfect synchronisation of Formula One pit crews to the high-risk handoffs of patients from surgery to recovery and intensive care.
"In Formula One, they have checklists, databases, and they have well-defined processes for doing things, and we don't really have any of those things in health care."

1968 Shelby G.T.500

Here's my 68 gt500.  Most recent kit I've built.  I got it for Christmas and spent only about a week of on and off work on it.  It's a mostly bone stock AMT reissue kit.

I made only a couple of small changes.  The wheels that came with the kit were 'okay', but rather flat.  I would have used them, but the only way to remove them from the sprue would damage them, and I didn't feel like repairing them.  I found a better set of the same type of wheels in my parts box.  The kit came with two different but very standard air filters.  I put a correct air filter from a boss mustang from my parts box.  Lastly the kit came with a single round side mirror.  Incorrect.  I added a pair of correct square side mirrors again from my parts box.

Well tell me what you think.

Lamborghini Gallardo TT by Underground Racing

After teasing the return of the Lamborghini Gallardo Nera a couple of months ago, Underground Racing is back with yet another tuning kit for the Gallardo. It may not be the Nera, but the Lamborghini Gallardo TT will certainly beat many other cars to the punch with its array of engine options and its killer speed.

The new Gallardo TT will be offered in three different engine stages with updates ranging from Stage One’s 650 WHP all the way up to Stage Three’s 1250 WHP on race fuel. If that’s not enough to tantalize your taste buds, Underground Racing has a Race Version Turbo System with a highly modified twin-turbo engine that will increase the output to a total of 1500 WHP on race fuel to make us feel all tingly inside.

The fun is all in the end result, but to get there, Underground Racing added a slew of products. The package includes custom twin billet 62mm precision turbochargers, TiAL billet wastegates and billet blow off valves, custom fabricated stainless steel air induction using aircraft quality metal, and a custom Air/Water intercooler system with high flow water pump. Everything is cleaned up and ready to go with a custom ice water reservoir, high flow intercooler water heat exchanger, crankcase ventilation system, and K&N air filters. The engine’s beautiful sounds will rip out of a custom fabricated stainless steel exhaust using aircraft quality metal and ultra lightweight stainless steel mufflers.

Prices for the Lamborghini Gallardo TT will range from $35,000 to $109,000, depending on the stage. Hey, speed and beauty doesn’t come cheap.
