Vygor Opera 2

Straight out of their new Opera reveal, Italian company Vygor is shooting from the hip yet again with a luxurious version of the same model. The Opera is a combination of an SUV and a GT - nope, not a typo - designed to be "aggressive and original," while the new model - called the Opera.2 - is supposed to be "elegant and exclusive." We’re glad that Vygor seemed to have gotten the memo on the improvements that needed to be made to their vehicle, but we expected more drastic changes than the ones provided.

The Vygor Opera and Opera.2 are built on a high-strength steel tubular chassis and powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Power outputs are dealt in three different stages: 300 HP and 280 lb-ft, 350 HP and 361 lb-ft, or 420 HP and 435 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic with sequential shifting and an adjustable Ohlins suspension. The vehicle sends power to all four wheels with a Torsen differential up front and an electronic limited slip differential in the rear. With this setup, the SUV/GT can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 160 mph.

So far, nothing has really changed from the original Opera, but the luxury comes in the interior. Vygor has added hand-crafted leather trim, has powered everything up, and added a navigation system with a 7-inch touch-screen display. Vygor also states that their vehicle can be customized so that customers can create their own ’unique Opera.’

The original Vygor Opera is scheduled to be built in a limited run of 150 units, so we expect the Opera.2 will be built under the same guidelines. Prices will start from 140,000 Euro - or about $193,000 at the current exchange rates.

We’re still not convinced that the Opera is worth buying. We’d prefer a Porsche Cayenne or a BMW X5M, but that’s just us. Let us know if you agree.
